Pallet dimensions in, density and estimated LTL freight class out, with a printable summary for your quote request.
Density estimate only. Some freight is classed by handling, stowability or liability instead. The carrier and the NMFC listing have the final say.
For most general commodities, class follows density: weight divided by the space the shipment takes. Lower class numbers are denser and, on the same lane, usually cost less to move. Class 400 is the light, bulky end.
A 48 × 40 × 36 inch pallet at 500 lb, including the pallet, is 40.00 cubic feet and 12.50 lb/ft³. That is estimated class 85, close to the next class boundary at 12.
